The second Morocco Property Expo will be held in Montreal’s Convention Center June 26th & 27th 2010. This real estate exhibition is aiming to help Moroccans living abroad who want to buy a new home in Morocco.
The first event, last year, attracted more than 4,000 visitors.
The exhibition lasted 2 days and featured the largest real estate groups in Morocco. Visitors who decided to acquire a property in Morocco were able to close the deal on the spot.
The Expo was marked by the attendance of Mr. Ahmed Taoufik Hejira, minister of housing, Nouzha Chekrouni, Moroccan Ambassador to Canada.

The recession has caused several developers in Marrakesh to suspend building plans, and there are less buyers looking for properties, resulting in price falls, however local Moroccan estate agents say that in cities such as Rabat and Casablanca property prices have not fallen at all, and in some cases are rising.

Moroccan developers protest the potential loss of building-sector tax breaks.
The 2008 Finance Act passed by the cabinet on November 7th raised the issue of property tax breaks.Due to a change in the system, developers will now have to pay 15 % corporate tax in 2008 and 30% in 2009. The VAT (Value Added Tax) on sale prices will also rise from 14% to 20%.
